The FINANCIAL — The European Union, together with implementing partner organizations – Youth Agency, Save the Children, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and Georgian Youth Workers’ Association has launched a new joint project “Skills for Success”. The project, which is part of a wider EU programme “Skills4Jobs”, aims to foster the entrepreneurial and employability skills of young people under the age of 16-26, especially those of Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET). The project will focus on the youth in five target regions of Georgia – Guria, Racha-Lechkhumi, Shida Kartli, Kakheti and Tbilisi, by providing access to non-formal education.
Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, the government, the project implementing partners – international and local organizations, private sector and various stakeholders involved in youth development and empowerment attended the project launch event in Tbilisi.
As Programme Manager for Youth, Culture and Digital Society at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, Nino Samvelidze stated:
“The EU supports education, employment and entrepreneurship skills development of young people in Georgia. Investing in Youth and providing them with tangible resources can result in fundamental changes on both social and economic levels of the country.”
The Director of Save the Children, Tamta Golubiani underlined the importance of such initiatives for youth development and noted:
“Youth empowerment and participation in decision making processes is of paramount importance for Save the Children and this project specifically contributes to youth development and engagement”.
The Director of Youth Agency, Revaz Charkviani also highlighted:
“The government officials will particularly benefit from improved resources to enable informed decision-making which will enhance service provision for youth”.
The “Skills for Success” project will run over the next three years and will support youth entrepreneurial and market driven skills development among NEETs, particularly disadvantaged youth and women, through non-formal education, career guidance and active international partnership. The project will increase youth participation in decision making, institutionalise Youth Work as a profession, recruit youth workers, provide access to non-formal education opportunities and elaborate the National Strategy of Youth Entrepreneurial Education and Employability.
