The FINANCIAL — According to the data of the first quarter of 2019, the Georgian Railway total cargo shipment amounted to 2.5 million tons, which is 105 000 tons compared to the same period of the previous year, and revenues from shipments exceeding 3.2 million dollars in the quarter of 2018.

The increase is due to a significant increase in dry cargo shipments and container transfers. In the first quarter of 2019, 1.48 million tons of dry cargo wagons were transported, this indicator has increased by 9% compared to 2018.

Since 2018, the Georgian Railway carries out new cargoes, namely Kazakhstan wheat and coal transportation.
In the first quarter of 2019, container traffic reached a historic maximum- it is transported to 18 000 containers, compared with 2018 to 31%.

The increase in container cargo turnover in the Georgian Railway is partly due to the transit cargo increasing volume-positive trend in this regard was observed in 2018.

Taking into account the requirements of the market, the Georgian Railway is actively working on attracting dry cargoes, including containers and maximal use of the country transit potential.
