The FINANCIAL — People who work at a computer during the day are advised to eat cottage cheese according to doctors interviewed by The FINANCIAL. Maka Korinteli, Doctor of Medicine says that recently people have started to think about getting enough nutrition and that they are paying more attention to their appearance.

Sport and diet are advised to people by doctors 50/50. Balanced nutrition is also very important for people’s health, say doctors.

“A correct diet includes right and healthy physiological nutrition. All products should be eaten in terms of moderation, no matter what food is it, chocolate, cookies or even cheesecake. We should eat everything but in small amounts, we should not forbid ourselves from eating any products in particular. Sport and diet are recommended 50/50,” Maka Korinteli, says.

“Generally a person needs moderate and adequate physical exercise and balanced nutrition to stay healthy. The main point is that physical exercise should be suited to a person’s individual physical condition and should be done as part of a regular regime. After a regime of intensive exercising it is very harmful to suddenly give it up and this will reflect negatively on a person’s health,” states Rusudan Mermanishvili, Director of the Centre for weight and body correction Aura Plus.

Both doctors agree that no one products should be removed from a person’s diet completely.

“If any component is fully taken out from a diet, it’s not recommended to be on that diet for a long time. Nutrition should be balanced and should not cause a lack of vitamins. Intensive exercising will raise the deficit in monotonous diets. Choosing the right diet means having food that is of good value and is not causing an increase in weight or any other problems. A strict diet should be chosen individually and only by a doctor,” Mermanishvili says.

According to Maka Korinteli, in order to have enough healthy nutrition, a person should eat 3 times a day and this is a very important formula. A person should also eat fruit of about half a kilo every day.

“If a person eats healthy products and has the right regime of nutrition, only in this case will a person start losing excess weight, but correction of the body whilst losing weight begins with physical exercising,” Korinteli says.

“A diet is individual and every person should have their own kind of diet. It’s not possible to start doing a diet recommended by a friend or relative, as it could cause cause some health problems,” Korinteli told The FINANCIAL.

Maka Korinteli and Rusudan Mermanishvili name healthy nutrition’s main principals.

“Healthy nutrition’s main principals are the right liquid regime with mineral water, green tea without sugar, sweet tea, coffee, and juices which are perceived as food by our body. A grown up person who weights 70-75 kilograms should consume 2 litres of liquid during winter and in summer 3 litres or more. Food during the day should be taken at equal intervals of 3,4-5 hours. It’s not recommended to have food after 7-8 o’clock in the evening,” Mermanishvili says.

“200 kilograms of cottage cheese, 500 ml of sour milk, half a kilo of fruit, 200-300 grams of meat, 300 grams of cabbage and not more than 200 grams of bread are examples of proper amounts of food staples that amount to a healthy diet. If you start controlling what you eat then will not put on weight and will be healthy,” Korinteli says.

Maka Korinteli advises women to go to aerobics or swimming pools rather than going to the gym to work out.

“I would also advise people not to lose or put on more than 3-5 kilogram’s in a month. People should pay much attention to having right and healthy nutrition their whole lives and then they will have fewer problems with their health. Being overweight causes many problems with heart and stomach diseases,” Korinteli says.

“Unhealthy nutrition may cause problems with being overweight, and others like gastric problems, diabetes, infarct and even cancer. More widespread than these is heart problems. According to world statistics, Georgia is not among the list of countries where being overweight is a number one tendency, but the fact that overweight problems are arising in children and adults is connected with unhealthy diets,” Mermanishvili says.

“In my view, none of the Georgians’ favourite foods are harmful if we season the food normally, because most Georgian products are organic. In Georgian food we use many spices, damp greens and vegetables, which neutralize fatty meat and are full of organic composites and vitamins. If eating great amounts of any sorts of food, the result will be problems connected with the stomach,” Mermanishvili says.

According to Korinteli, Georgian cuisine is full of calories. She says that cheese cake, khinkalli, and Mtsvadi are products that are not recommended to eat every day.

Korinteli declares that if a person needs to be healthy he will always find time for healthy nutrition, even in the midst of a very hard work schedule.

“If I want to be healthy, no matter how hard a working graphic I have, I will manage it. A person should always be able to find healthier food options as substitutes for the ones they usually eat,” Korinteli says.

“It’s much better for people to take homemade food to work, or just buy cottage cheese in the nearest shop, rather than to eat a whole package of chocolate and put on weight. A person who works much at the computer during a day, should definitely eat cottage cheese,” Korinteli says.

Mermanishvili also advises cottage cheese to those who have to work at a computer all day long.

“While working at a computer it is advised to protect the face with SPF protecting cream. We should also eat enough food while working at a computer for hours; food like nuts, garlic, one glass of dry wine, milk, green tea with lemon, haricot, soy-beans, fruit, green vegetables, black chocolate which consist of 70% cocoa,” Rusudan Mermanishvili says.

According to Maka Korinteli, recently people have started thinking more about having healthy diets, the reason being that they are paying more attention to their appearance and that’s why they have started thinking about it.

“Fortunately in recent times in Georgia, people have started to look after their diets and lifestyles. These people are divided in to two groups, those who have moderated or changed their diets and lifestyles to healthier options and those who have good intentions but are wrongly informed and therefore continue making lifestyle and dietary mistakes. So if in doubt about your diet it is important to seek professional advice from an expert on what nutrition is best so as to see a good effect on your health and life in general.
